“I believe that meaningful growth is achieved only when a person feels fully heard, accepted, safe, and worthy just as they are in the present moment.”

Melanie Kantor, LCSW (she/her)

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown University and my Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. I am a member of the National Association of Social Work.

My clinical experiences began with providing therapy at several types of schools including private, international, and public. I spent several wonderful years at the Ivymount School where I served neurodivergent children with a wide range of special needs.

For several years I worked with a wide range of clients at In Step, a group private practice. There I provided individual therapy as well as designed and led groups for young adults with Social Anxiety, for young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, for anxious kids, for middle schoolers, and for parents of young children.

In 2019 I began my private practice Emerge Therapy here in Sugaroak Professional Center in Herndon. My clients enjoy the privacy and serenity of this beautiful office park. At times in your therapy we may make use of the trails behind my office to walk and talk while enjoying the beauty of the woods and creek.

I have a standard poodle named Apollo who is in training to be a therapy dog. He is a gentle (and goofy) giant, and often joins me in the office for sessions.
